In celebration of the National Day on Writing on Oct. 20, a UW-Rock County student group is encouraging the community to think about all the other October observances and write down some thoughts at a free public writing event.

The Delta Gamma chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta English honor society will host a three-hour event called “Writing About Awareness” to encourage people to write and to enjoy and learn from the writing of others. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hyatt Smith Hall Commons on the UW-Rock County campus at 2909 Kellogg Ave.

Participants can write on large sheets of provided paper about any topic, but may be inspired by other October awareness initiatives, such as:

•National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

•National Arts and Humanities Month

•Adopt-A-Shelter Dog Month

•Filipino American History Month

•Domestic Violence Awareness Month

•Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender History Month

•Fair Trade Month

•National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

•For more information, call club advisor Dr. John Pruitt at 608-758-6565 ext. 730.
