Harold B. Swezey, 94, of South Beloit, died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday April 15, 2010 in Fair Oaks Nursing Home in South Beloit. Born November 19, 1915 in Belvidere, IL to George and Mabel (Hathaway) Swezey. He lived most of his life in the Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin area. Married Lillian Gunderson on September 25, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She predeceased him in 1987.
Married to Vivian Hurst in Rockford, IL on March 18, 1989. She predeceased him in 2004.
He was employed by the Manchester Grade School as a custodian and Bus driver for many years. Member of Memorial Baptist Church. In 1980 he was honored with “Those Who Excel” award by the state of Illinois at a dinner ceremony in Chicago. He was the first custodian to receive this award. The gymnasium at the Manchester Grade School was dedicated in his honor.

Survivors include his son, Tom (Mary) Swezey of Beloit, WI; Daughter, Cathy (Ron) Hicks of San Francisco, CA; Son, Alan Swezey of Brandon, WI; 5 grandchildren, Christina Swezey, Paula Rehfeldt, Cindy (Paul) Shirk, James Swezey and Justin Cosgrove. Great grandson, Aidan Rehfeldt. Sister, Ruth Vesmarovich of Georgia, Brothers in law, Virgil Barth and Norman Gunderson both of Wisconsin. He is also survived by numerous step children and other relatives from his second marriage. Predeceased by his twin sister, Harriet; brothers, Roy and Howard and his sister Maybelle.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday April 18, 2010 at Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home 304 N. 5th St. Rockford with pastor Paul Martin officiating. Visitation was held 1 hour prior to service time.
