On Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Beloit Memorial Hospital surrounded by family, Charlie James “CJ” McClendon was called up to be with his heavenly Father from labor to rest.

He was born on May 9, 1944, in Chickasaw County, MS to Aron and LeNora (Buchanan) McClendon Jr. CJ accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age and united with New Hope United Methodist Church in Houston, MS. He was a graduate of Chickasaw Consolidated High School in Houston, MS. He attended Okolona College in Okolona, MS., prior to his being drafted into the U.S. Army on September 27, 1967. CJ was a Vietnam War veteran having fought in Vietnam until his discharge on May 3, 1969. He later relocated from his home in Mississippi to Beloit, WI, where he was united in holy matrimony to Marilyn Foster on August 4, 1988.

CJ was employed by General Motors in Janesville, WI, for 33 years, retiring on August 1, 2006. He served faithfully as a member of New Zion Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon on October 28, 2007. He was also a member of the Shepherd Staff, Brotherhood, and Men of Zion Male Chorus and served faithfully until his death.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marilyn McClendon of Beloit, WI; son, Donnie Walker of West Pont, MS; two daughters, Jeanette Hanna of Los Angeles, CA and Ja’Cynta McClendon of Beloit, WI; two grandchildren, Santosh Johnson of Okolona, MS, and Cavari McClendon of Beloit, WI; two great grandchildren, Marley McIntosh and Ethan Johnson of Okolona, MS; three stepchildren that he loved as his own, Leslie Savage, Joyce Davis, and Pete Porter; five step grandchildren, Miles Henry, Alissa Stevens, Shayla, Amir and Jalen Porter; seven step great grandchildren; two brothers, Willie Jim (Ruthie) McClendon of Shannon, MS and MacArthur (Barbara) McClendon of Beloit, WI; three sisters, Wiley (Willie) Caradine of Beloit, WI, Zoretta (Robert) Pulliam of Prairie, MS, Louella (Lee Raymond) Baker of Marietta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Aron McClendon, Jr. and LeNora Buchanan McClendon; one sister Doris Pulliam; and three brothers Jim Alex McClendon, Joe Louis McClendon, and Aron McClendon, III.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 in New Zion Baptist Church, 1905 S. Mound Ave. Beloit, WI with Reverend James M. Ivy officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Beloit, WI. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd. Beloit, WI assisted the family with the arrangements.
