Charles “Charlie” Lee Baker, 56, of Rockford, IL, died Friday, April 22, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family and friends after a year long battle with cancer. He was born June 27, 1954 in Beloit, WI, the son of George and Phyllis (Vogel) Baker.
Charlie graduated from South Beloit High School, attended a trade school in Minneapolis and worked at Beloit Corporation before moving to Rockford, IL. He worked as a mechanical designer for several companies including White-Sunstrand, Ingersol and Eclipse.
He enjoyed reading, photography, bird watching and crossword puzzles. His family and friends were the most important thing in his life. Known as “Chuck” at work, he really appreciated the faithful friends he kept over the years. He attended First Evangelical Free Church, Rockford, IL and especially wanted to thank Al and Ann House for leading him to become a Christian.
Survivors include his daughter, Erika (Tony) Hernandez of South Beloit, IL; his mother, Phyllis Baker of South Beloit, IL; brother, Mark (Kim) Baker of South Beloit, IL; sister, Cherie (Doug) Sloan of CA.; nieces, Heather Baker and Hannah Sloan; nephews, Brock (Kirsten) Baker and George Sloan; great nephew, Zachary Baker and great niece, Adrianne Baker.
He was predeceased by his father, George.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Reverend David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
