Two Beloit citizens are being praised for rescuing an elderly couple from a burning car Wednesday afternoon.
Kerry Mann and Brendon Golden had to break out the car windows to get the couple out of the burning car, which had stalled on Riverside Drive in Beloit around 1:17 p.m. Wednesday, according to Beloit Fire Department reports.
Mann said he and his wife, Jen, were on Riverside Drive when they saw a man waving people down near the intersection at Henry Avenue. Black smoke was coming from the engine area of the car an Jim Fregeau and his wife were in the car, unable to open the doors. Mann said he noticed an oxygen tank in the back seat of the car.
Mann grabbed a rock from the side of the road and broke the car window, cutting his hand in the process.
The couple were able to get out with the help of Mann and Golden.
