There will be a benefit to celebrate the life of Willie Guzman, and to help his wife and children starting at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Marine Corps League, 3807 Riverside Drive.

Guzman, who died in a snowmobile accident, left behind his wife, Heidi, and children Bryan, 19, Brad, 17, Emilie, 16, and Brenden, 13.

Heidi Guzman said the benefit will include a poker run car show, silent auction and a grand prize raffle for a 53 inch screen TV. Admission is $5 at the door and includes dinner.

The benefit will help the family, as well as celebrate the life of a man who is deeply loved and missed by his family and friends.

Willie, of Beloit Township, was 47-years-old when he passed away on March 3 as the result of a snowmobile accident on Lake Koshkonong. He had been doing what he loved, snowmobiling with his lifelong friend, Lewis Masterson.

Willie, a member of First Baptist Church in Beloit, was a mechanic for Warshawsky Automotive in Rockford and Car-X in Madison. He was family oriented and his children were his life. He enjoyed participating in the 100 Men Who Cook and he loved the outdoors, especially birds.

In light of Willie’s passing, his wife Heidi said she wants to spread the message of safety to all those who partake in winter or summer sports such as four-wheeling, dirt biking, boating and more. She encourages people to learn and adhere to any and all safety requirements and rules of their sport.

Willie’s death from the snowmobiling accident was the 18th in Wisconsin for this season alone. Although he had a jacket with flotation capabilities, Willie didn’t make it after breaking his way through the ice.

The loss of Willie has been excruciatingly painful for his family, and they want to promote safety to prevent any other tragic sports-related accidents. Heidi said such tragedies can happen to anyone although most people somehow believe it could never happen to them.

“People really need to find out what safety precautions are for whatever sport they are doing, and take those precautions at any cost. Your child, spouse, or anybody’s life is worth the extra money to get the appropriate safety equipment,” she said.

Heidi would have celebrated her 18th wedding anniversary with Willie on March 31.

“He was a fabulous person, and his family and his kids were always a top priority for him. He was the type of man any woman would want to marry and be with. He was just fabulous. There really is no word that would be to describe him, he was irreplaceable in my life,” Heidi said. “He treated me like a queen.”

Willie loved ice fishing, four wheeling, dirt bikes and more. When not enjoying his sports he was with his family or cooking. He was one of the favorites at 100 Men Who Cook. His smoked pulled pork would be gone with the first hour.

“People would line up at his table waiting for his pulled pork every year. He was always coming up with different concoctions,” Heidi said.
